Association Objectives

(As adopted on 26.03.1969 and altered on 16.10.1984, 03.03.1993, 27.04.1999 and 07.06.2000)
1. TITLE
1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards Regimental Association (including the Benevolent Fund).
2. OBJECTIVES
a) To promote the efficiency of the Army by:
(i) Maintaining contact between past and present members of the Regiment, fostering mutual friendship between them and providing for social gatherings for them; and
(ii) Fostering esprit de corps, comradeship and the welfare of the Regiment and preserving its traditions.
b) For the relief of members in need:
to relieve either generally or individually members of the Association or past and present members of the Regiment and past members of The King's Dragoon Guards and The Queen’s Bays and their widows and dependants who are m conditions of need, hardship or distress.
c) In furtherance of these Objects but not otherwise the Association through its Benevolent Committee shall have the following powers:
(i) to take all necessary action for publishing and disseminating information concerning the histories, deeds and traditions of the Regiment and for the encouragement of recruiting
(ii) to execute and administer charitable trusts;
(iii) to receive, take and accept any gifts of property, whether subject to any special trust or not;
(iv) to receive and accept contributions by way of subscriptions, donations or otherwise and to raise funds for the said Object provided that the Association shall not undertake any permanent trading activities concerned solely with the said raising of funds.
(v) to assist distressed and needy beneficiaries and their dependants by way of grants, gifts,
pensions and otherwise;
(vi) to pay for any such items, services or facilities by way of donations or subscriptions to charitable institutions or organisations which provide which undertake in return to provide such items, services or facilities for distressed and needy beneficiaries;
(vii) subject to such consents as may from time to time be required by law, to purchase, take, lease or exchange any property required for the purposes of the Association and lease, exchange or otherwise dispose of the same;
(viii) subject to such consents as may from time to time by required by law, to borrow or raise money for the purpose of the Association on such terms and such security as may be thought fit;
(ix) to invest funds and property of the Association for use for purpose of the Association m such investments as may from time to time be authorised by law;
(x) to accumulate funds of the Association for such period as may from time to time be
authorised by the law; and
(xi) to do all other things as shall be necessary for the attainment of the said Objects.
3. MEMBERSHIP
All past and present members of the Regiment and all past members of The King's Dragoon Guards and The Queen’s Bays automatically qualify for assistance m case of need. Assistance is not contingent on subscribing.
4. SUBSCRIPTIONS
a) Association Fund - (Retired officers and ex soldiers)
Such sums that are periodically agreed by the Committee and are considered a fair annual levy to maintain the health of the fund. For this a member receives a copy of the Regimental Journal, Newsletters and other communications.
b) Benevolent Fund - (Serving soldiers, retired officers and ex soldiers)

· Other income is derived from investments m the Combined Charitable Fund.
5. REGIMENTAL BENEVOLENT FUND
Regimental Benevolence is the combined benevolent work of both the Fund and The Army Benevolent Fund. The QDG Benevolent Fund provides help to serving soldiers and ex-soldiers of the Regiment, and their families, when they are in real need and where state assistance is inadequate. Many requests for help come through the casework of SSAFA. The Army Benevolent Fund provides additional financial support when requested.
Income for the QDG Benevolent Fund come almost entirely from the One Day's Pay Scheme of serving members of the Regiment and the investment of capital invested by Mercury Asset Management.
Donations can be made by cheque, made payable to 'HHQ QDG' and sent to: HHQ QDG, Maindy Barracks, Whitchurch Road, Cardiff, CF14 3YE.
6. COMMITTEE
There will be one Committee which will cover both the Executive and Benevolent work of the
Association. Chaired by the Colonel of the Regiment, members are voted onto the committee at the AGM annually.
The Committee will consist of:

Responsibilities of the Committee will include:
- Election of Members, Organisation of Reunion Dinners and other social activities.
- Organisation of the Annual Cavalry Memorial Parade.
- Maintenance of the Association Accounts and Trust Funds.
- Representation at Field of Remembrance in Westminster Abbey and Remembrance Parade in Cardiff.
- Nominating representatives to serve on Combined Cavalry OCA and other Committees. Organise visits to Regiment.
- Benevolent Cases.
7. The Committee to meet twice annually, in March and October in Cardiff. Minutes of meeting to be circulated to all members of the Committee.
8. The Annual General Meeting of the Association shall be held on the evening of the Reunion Dinner in Cardiff, at which the members of the Committee are appointed.
9. A General Meeting of the Association shall be called at the written request of any six subscribing members.
10. Alteration to these Rules shall receive the assent of two-thirds of the members present and voting at an Annual General Meeting or a Special General Meeting. A resolution for the alteration of the Rules must be received by the Secretary of the Association at least 21 days before the meeting at which the resolution is to be brought forward. At least 14 days notice of such a meeting must be given by the Secretary to the membership and must include notice of the alteration proposed. Provided that no alteration shall be made to Rule 2 (objects), Rule 10 (dissolution) or this Rule, shall take effect until the approval in writing of the Charity Commissioners shall have been obtained; and no alteration shall be made which would have the effect of causing the Association to cease to be a charity in law.
11. The Association may be dissolved by a Resolution passed by a two-thirds majority of those present and voting at a Special General Meeting convened for the purpose of which 21 days notice shall have been given to the members. Such resolution may give instructions for the disposal of any assets held by or in the name of the Association, provided that ff any property remains after the satisfaction of all debts and liabilities such property shall not be paid to or distributed among the members of the Association but shall be given or transferred to such other charitable institution or institution having objects similar to some or all of the objects of the Association as the Association may determine and if and in so far as effect cannot be given to this provision then to some other charitable purpose.
