The King’s Dragoon Guards were brigaded in the Household Cavalry Brigade and made up forty percent of its strength. During the battle the KDG charged thirteen times, and although they started the day with 570 sabres by the end of it there were no more than 30 still fit for battle. In memory of that evening the officers and sergeants of 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards dine together in the WO’s and Sgt’s mess on each June 18th.
