Victoria’s Wars
£6.00
The Victorian army had to meet its rapidly expanding commitments in home and imperial defence in the context of voluntary enlistment and a basically anti-militarist society, for though considerable pride was taken in military achievements this was not reflected in concern for the army itself. This selection of campaign photographs shows the Victorian army in a variety of climes and conditions from Burma 1852 to Tibet 1902. It also records the vital yet often neglected role played by the army in the great Victorian imperial adventure.
